Tom Canning
Tom (*1948 in Rochester, NY) is a keyboardist, organist, and composer. He grew up in a family of musicians. Tom received classical piano lessons from Eastman for ten years and developed a broad musical interest. He studied as a music interpreter at the Berklee School of Music in Boston and North Texas State University.
 
Canning then settled in Los Angeles, where he initially worked with John Klemmer, Delbert McClinton, Freddie King and T Bone Burnett. In 1974 he became a member of Al Jarreau's band, where he also worked as musical director and co-producer for several years. He toured worldwide with Jarreau and was involved in seven albums. He co-wrote songs such as "Breakin' Away", "Never Givin’ Up", and "Roof Garden". From 1984 he produced with Ray Lynch, toured internationally with Wayne Shorter, and then worked with Elvis Costello, Jim Carroll, Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh, Bonnie Raitt and Stephen Bruton. From 1998 he was part of Johnny Hallyday's band for five years and also became a member of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, with whom he recorded ten albums. He also worked for Eddy Mitchell, Atushi, Betty Buckley and T-Bone Burnett and toured with Rickie Lee Jones and Playing for Change. He also composed for film and television.
