Benjamín Léon When Benjamín (*1956 in Écija) was very young, his relationship with Lou Bennett and Tete Montoliu determined his inclination to Jazz.   In 1975 he abandoned his university studies in psychology to devote himself exclusively to music. Since then, he has played in many of the most emblematic jazz clubs of the peninsula: Cova del Drac, Satchmo and Jamboree in Barcelona, Jazz Cava de Terrassa, Balboa Jazz Club, Segundo Jazz, Clamores and Galileo Galilei in Madrid.   He has participated in the Barcelona International Jazz Festival. At the Grand Parade du Jazz in Nice/France he participated as a representative of Spain, chosen by RTVE. He performed with international musicians such as the singer Carrie Smith, the trombonist Gene "Mighty Flea" Conners, or the organist Wild Bill Davis.   He appears in the "Great Encyclopedia of Jazz Sarpe" as the best jazz organist in Spain and one of the best in Europe.   For years he has maintained a stable trio with trumpeter Arnau Boix and drummer Adrià Font. He has led other formations with musicians such as Dave Mitchell, Pere Soto, John Dubuclet, Joan Albert, Toni Gili, among others.   As a pianist, he leads the Swingologie trio with Albert Romaní on guitar and Artur Regada on double bass. He has collaborated with La Locomotora Negra in concerts and in the recording of an album.   In his artistic career he has been part of projects not directly related to Jazz: as a Latin music pianist (salsa and tango) in different formations and as an arranger and session musician in various productions of groups and singer-songwriters.   Benjamín moves between classic jazz and bebop, with great reminiscences of the characteristic bluesy style, a style followed by the best jazz organists of all time.   from www.jazzterrassa.org
