David Schollmeyer
David Schollmeyer was born in Lutherstadt Wittenberg in 1971 and grew up in a Lutheran pastor's home. After his Abitur (secondary school-leaving examination) and civil service, he enrolled at the Lutheran College of Church Music in Halle an der Saale in 1991. He passed his A Examination in 1996, and then in 1998, under Prof. Gundel Zieschang (Leipzig), became the first student to complete the Artist's Examination with organ as his major subject. He participated actively in numerous organ master classes led by Petr Eben, Zsolt Gárdonyi, Olivier Latry, Ben van Oosten, and others, and since the beginning of his studies has pursued an extensive concert career as an organist, improviser, and jazz pianist that has taken him throughout Germany and to numerous European countries. His extensive repertoire focuses on Johann Sebastian Bach and a number of great works by Max Reger and Sigfrid Karg-Elert as well on French late Romantic music (e.g. the complete works of Louis Vierne and Maurice Duruflé) and great cycles of the twentieth century. Following professional assignments at the Ebstorf Abbey Church and St. Paul's Church in Buchholz/Nordheide, since September 2014 he has been the church music director and organist at the Große Kirche in Bremerhaven, where he also appears in public in regular oratorio performances with the Bach Choir.
